What to record before calling
- Where you first saw moisture and whether it is spreading
- Whether the issue changes after a fixture or appliance is used
- When the problem started and any recent plumbing work
- Which fixtures are affected and whether the supply is safely off
Why a higher bill is only a clue
Irrigation, seasonal use, visiting guests, and a running fixture can change your water consumption. Compare actual meter readings and billing periods when available. A bill alone does not establish where a leak is or whether a pipe is damaged.
